Know her yet or not, you can't deny Susan Dittrich has moxie.

Specifically, she's the owner of Moxie Shoes, a local online shoe and accessory boutique specializing in private fittings and parties.

"The name 'Moxie' came from my grandmother," Dittrich said. "She used to say, 'I like that girl; she has moxie.'" Her grandmother also said, "'If you are having a bad day, buy some fancy shoes.' Whenever I see a fancy shoe, I always think of her and smile."

As Dittrich defines moxie as "sass, courage, spunk, determination, attitude," she told us five ways to "get your moxie on" in and around town.

In the Raw, 3321 S. Peoria Ave. "I had my first date with my husband at the midtown location. It is still one of our favorite places to go, but now the children join us."

Flirt boutique, Utica Square "I love shopping the latest fashion trends and visiting with Sara Bost Fisher," Flirt's owner, who has a selection of Moxie shoes in the store.

Training with Cecil Pettigrew "Working out is such an important part of my life. There is something very satisfying about putting on a pair of boxing gloves, punching a heavy bag and boxing a three-minute round with a former Golden Gloves boxer. It's a great way to release the stress of the day."

Time with girlfriends "Anytime, anywhere. When you have great friends, it does not matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together."

Giving back to the community Two of Dittrich's favorite charities are 12&12 Inc., a drug and alcohol treatment facility, and the Ward-Wiseman Animal Haven in Collinsville, a no-kill shelter.

"We recently adopted a little min-pin who has stolen our hearts. We all deserve a second chance."
